MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Former President Barack Obama was at a campaign rally for Democrats Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in Madison Tuesday afternoon, and Walz was at his side.

Former Pres. Obama and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz rallied a large crowd in Madison. Democratic turnout in this city will be part of what decides the fate of this critical swing state on election night.

Both speeches addressed key issues the Democrats have centered their campaign around, including abortion rights and health care access. They also had their fair share of digs at former President Trump.

On this first day of early voting in Wisconsin, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz tried to appeal to his Midwest neighbors while he addressed his stance on further restrictions on guns.

"Minnesota and Wisconsin have some of the highest concentration of folks who hunt- deer hunting to pheasant hunting to gun ownership," said Walz. "Look, on this one, I own guns. I'm a hunter, Kamala is a gun owner. But owning guns doesn't mean you can't be for common sense solutions that protect kids from being shot in school."

If you look at the results of the last four presidential elections in this county, you see Democrats dominating Dane County.

This county is also home to the third-highest number of Republican voters in the state. That means it's still a fight where both parties will have to do well if they want to win Wisconsin.
