Grafton village board passes motion to repair Bridge Street dam

GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A debate over the future of Grafton's Bridge Street dam got heated Monday night, Aug. 3, before the village board made a decision to take bids for repairs.

For more than two hours, people voiced opinions on whether the dam should be repaired after a hydraulic part broke during heavy rain in May. 

When the public got the chance to speak, it became clear the community is deeply divided. 

"It's frustrating that we continue to spend money, year after year, to support something that is not meeting the function that it was intended for," one person said. 

"Everyone that's lived here for a long time and is part of the community, they want to fix it. People who just moved here recently have all these great ideas."

According to meeting documents, the cost to repair the dam could be up to $180,000.
