MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A local pharmacy says it's now offering a third Covid vaccine dose to eligible patients.
Hayat Pharmacy in Milwaukee started giving those booster shots Monday, Aug. 16.
Health regulators authorized the extra dose last week for people with weakened immune systems or organ transplants.
A nurse with a compromised immune system who decided to get her booster Monday told us she's not worried about potential side effects.
"I think the side effects of any vaccine are much more tolerable than the scary unknown of getting Covid," said nurse Kelly Fenhaus.
"People don't have to register or make an appointment. They just walk in, fill out one sheet and the form saying they're immuno-compromised, then they get the shot," said Dr. Hashim Zaibak of Hayat Pharmacy.
Health authorities haven't said when, or if, the general population will need a booster shot, but they say for now, the vaccines continue to be highly effective in most healthy people.
