New Berlin detective fires gun during stolen vehicle investigation in Milwaukee, suspects transported to hospital
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A large police presence on Milwaukee's north side Monday night, March 6, involved officers from New Berlin.
According to a police report, detectives were following up on a vehicle stolen out of New Berlin when they were involved in a "critical incident" near 56th and Locust.
Authorities say one of the New Berlin detectives fired his weapon, and two suspects were taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Neither detective was injured.
CBS 58 crews watched police search a silver car before it was towed away. New Berlin police later said several firearms were located in a suspect vehicle.

Some people living in the area said they heard gunshots. Others didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.
"I seen the heavy police presence," said Michael Robinson, who lives in the area. "It's like five, six police officers that was out and then they got to taping off all of the corners."
Robinson said he occasionally sees police chases in his neighborhood, but nothing to this magnitude.
"This is a good area, good people. We're all a community. We look out for each other," he said.
Activist Vaun Mayes says he expects responding agencies to be transparent when telling the community what happened.
"People are going to want answers for this, especially by being an outside agency and coming into the city."
Officials say both suspects are in the custody of the Milwaukee Police Department pending charges.
The detectives involved have been placed on administrative leave. They have 15 and 22 years of service with the New Berlin Police Department.
The Milwaukee Police Department is the lead agency conducting the investigation.
