Hit-and-run in West Allis leaves extensive damage to 2 local businesses; over $50K in damages
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two local West Allis businesses were damaged after a hit-and-run crash over the weekend. Anthony's Appliances and Piece of Love bakery -- located near 68th and Lincoln -- are left to clean up the mess, but another business is getting involved to help get them back on their feet.
"I just felt alone," said Ana Gonzalez, owner of Piece of Love. "I felt like, 'What am I going to do now?'"
Piece of Love Owner Ana Gonzalez said, it was a shocking voicemail from the police that left her in pieces. The damage left Gonzalez in shock.
Seen on surveillance video obtained by CBS 58, a car slammed into the front door of Piece of Love bakery and Anthony's Appliances around 2:57 a.m. Saturday morning, Jan. 3.
"I'm surprised," said Gonzalez. "How did the car back up and was still drivable?"
Gonzalez said the damage could cost more than $50,000 dollars.
"The whole structure of like the front building, its damaged," said Gonzalez.
That's why chef Shane Rowe Sr., owner of Bishop Bakery, made a call to his customers asking them to support the two businesses instead.
"As a business owner myself I just had to reach out to them," said Rowe Sr.
A gesture Gonzalez said was a blessing.
"Just knowing that he's there as a neighbor and asking you know like, 'I don't want to make any money please come and support her,' it just meant the world to me," said Gonzalez.
As for the driver, Gonzalez isn't holding a grudge, but rather said she hopes they're doing ok.
West Allis police said they do not have anyone in custody but are looking for a known suspect.
