MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A historic hometown bakery that turns 100 years old next year has been asked by the Milwaukee Host Committee to be a partner vendor for the Republican National Convention next week.
The owners tell CBS 58 News they are big fans of rotating themes and staying on top of current events.
In the past, they've had Taylor Swift cookies, Giannis and the Bucks cookies, even the eclipse.
They rolled out some RNC cookies about two weeks ago as a test run ahead of the RNC, and got controversial reactions from people online, many arguing that the bakery made a political statement by advertising Trump and the Republican party on their products.
"You know, we got people on both sides, people that said that they absolutely, you know, love the idea, they love supporting a small business, and then we got others, of course, who took the opposite thing and, you know, took a hard stance against the cookies. But the next day we put all the DNC cookies out too," said Jeff Callen, co-owner of the National Bakery & Deli.
The bakery says they've already sold about 2,500 cookies so far and have some big orders lined up for next week.
