MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's one thing to talk about gun violence in Milwaukee. It's another to see the faces of victims who have been taken from their families by gun violence.
The faces of dozens of hometown victims were shown a candlelight vigil on Saturday, Dec. 9 to remember and honor those people.
Faces of men, women, and children were shown.
The vigil happened at the House of Prayer on Milwaukee's northside. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson was there, along with police Chief Jeffrey Norman and members of Milwaukee's faith community.
Relatives who have lost loves ones held candles.
Kewanee Allen's son was shot to death two years ago. Since then, she tells CBS 58 that she's formed a non-profit foundation to help other families cope with their loss.
"It's just something in regards to let other people and other families know that you still should have faith and you still also focus on the good that your son, your child left in regards to the memories," said Allen.
"It's a we thing. It's not someone else's problem. It's not in my backyard. But we need to be diligent in the work. We cannot just sit there and say we've done enough," said Chief Norman.
Events like this are being held around the county during the month of December to honor the victims of gun violence.
