Hundreds gather at Veteran's Park for the 41st UNCF Walk for Education

MILWAUKEE (CBS58) — On Saturday, July 2, more than 500 people gathered at Veteran's Park for the 41st annual UNCF Walk for Education.
"Eighty-five cents of every dollar we gain goes for student scholarships, direct and indirect, student support services, schools and resources. It's going back to college students," said Latina Brooks, UNCF development director.
It was a morning filled with purpose, unity and fitness as hundreds laced up their running shoes for the annual event.
The event raises money to help get students to and through college.
Former Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes has participated in the events for years.
He says the UNCF Walk for Education is more than a walk its opportunity for a brighter future for kids across Milwaukee.
"I think it's important as a community we do everything we can to ensure healthy lives. There are all sorts of health disparities that exist right here in the city of Milwaukee and this is an that ties the two together. Helps promote healthy living healthy lifestyles while also promoting education," said Barnes.
Our very own Frankie Jupiter walked and served as a grand marshal, raising more than 600 dollars for the cause!
