WEST MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) – Spring is here, and Easter is just around the corner.
A local organization is making sure families can have good food on the table as they celebrate.
Volunteers with Hunger Task Force and Palermo's spent Tuesday morning, March 19 assembling 600 Easter baskets for families in need.
The baskets were distributed to food banks Tuesday afternoon.
500 meals will go to food banks in Milwaukee County, and 100 will go to the Walworth County Food Bank.
The baskets include a full ham, pizza, fruits, veggies, and desserts - all donated by Palermo's, their employees, and their partners.
This is the 16th year they've hosted the Easter Baskets for the Hungry event.
"It's hard work going to a food pantry. It's not the most dignified thing in the world," said Hunger Task Force CEO, Sherrie Tussler. "When you get there and someone respects your holiday, and they make sure you can have a really great holiday - your kids, your grandkids, your friends or family over - that makes it very special for us."
Hunger Task Force and Palermo's have given out more than 10,000 Easter baskets since the program began.
