MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Area residents dealt with the rain-turned-snow conditions that hit the area Thursday.

"I had no idea it was going to turn to snow. It's been really slippery out here, and I kind of thought we were done with it with the warm weather," Brookfield resident Tiana Fleishman said.

Fleishman was in Milwaukee's Third Ward for lunch Thursday afternoon when the snow started falling in the area.

"[The roads] were very slippery not only driving but walking across the street. I may have slipped a couple of times," Fleishman said.

Another man, David Guzman, had his umbrella handy to help with both the rain and the snow. He tells CBS 58 that drivers were considerate on the road.

"Driving over here to the downtown area, it was, there was some traffic, but overall, people are being mindful of the weather, so that's nice at least," he said.

Another woman, who we caught up with on her lunch break Thursday, said she had to "waddle" on the sidewalks to make sure she did not slip.

"When I saw that it was going to snow, I was like, 'oh, it'll snow a little bit, it's going to be warm, it can't be that bad,' and then it is slippery. That is some slush we got," Olivia Cranston said.

According to Brian DeNeve from the Department of Public Works, a salting operation was called just after noon today. They are focusing on the main routes for the rush hour.

DeNeve says this process is crucial due to the damp conditions and lower temperatures expected early tomorrow.
