'ICE Out Milwaukee' legislation passes, prohibiting law enforcement from wearing face masks
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The latest legislation in the "ICE Out Milwaukee" package passed Tuesday morning, April 21, prohibiting law enforcement locally or federally from wearing face masks.
There are exceptions for unsafe conditions, like brutally cold temperatures.
We've heard support from the Milwaukee Police Association's president on the SOP change.
Alders say they worked closely with the city attorney's office to ensure this is legally enforceable in case it were to be challenged in court.
While we aren't seeing heavy immigration enforcement in Milwaukee at this time, city officials say they are working to be ready in case that were to change.
"What's going on in this country right now is abhorrent. We need to do every single thing we can. If we do not take action from the council to stop DHS from doing what it's doing, we can take steps to stop what ICE is doing and make them work in the best way they can," said Milwaukee Alderman Alex Brower.
We're told about half of the dozen resolutions from the ICE Out Milwaukee legislative package have now been approved.
