MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is celebrating one of their own after he helped a man in need.
Captain Paul Thompson said he saw a homeless man shivering in the cold outside of the public safety building when he decided to help.
For Capt. Thompson, giving to his community is an everyday job.
"It’s the same day for me every day as for as helping somebody," said Capt. Thompson.
For him, doing something nice extends off the clock. Last week he was photographed helping a man who was out in the cold and in distress.
"It was cold, really cold outside, and he didn't have on no shoes, jacket, pants, no hat," said the captain.
He said he saw the man shivering outside of the public safety building last week and decided to help him put on his coat, pants and shoes.
Photos were snapped without his knowledge. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office shared those photos on their Facebook page.
We had to push Capt. Thompson to talk about this good deed, and he agreed only so others follow in his footsteps.
"If you can help somebody, do it. It doesn’t need to be a lot, but it can mean a lot to that person," said Capt. Thompson.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said the man in distress was helped into a detox and rehab program thanks to their C.A.R.T unit who was called to the scene last week.
