Meet CBS 58’s Pet of the Week: Gravy
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- For the first time in a decade, the Milwaukee Mile will see the return of the NTT Indycar Series.
When those engines start running, it will be a historic moment for auto racing.
“It’s the most competitive racing series that we have," said Christian Lundgaard, an IndyCar driver. "It was the same feeling I had when I drove a Go Kart for the first time.”
To some drivers, this racetrack isn't new. For others, it's what they've been working towards their entire lives.
“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve worked for a long time to be here, so to be in IndyCar with Arrow McLaren is a dream come true for me," said Nolan Siegel, IndyCar driver. "Yeah, to be racing my heroes was quite cool. Hoping to beat them this weekend.”
Racing first began at the Mile in 1939 but ended in 2015. Now, both seasoned and new drivers will compete in a doubleheader Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
“An area where IndyCar racing has got a lot of value. A lot of people come to see it," said Scott Dixon. Dixon is a six-time NTT IndyCar Series Champion.
Dixon says he hopes this is just the beginning of auto racing returning to Milwaukee.
“You know, I think for any car enthusiasts, it’s something to check out," said Dixon.
The first race is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Saturday evening.
