January ends 51st in the rankings on both temps and snow
January is in the record books and it definitely felt and looked like winter through most of the month. Overall, January was cold with an average temperature of 19.3 degrees which was almost five full degrees below average. It officially goes down as the 51st coldest on record, so not super impressive on the rankings.
However, we did have some warm temps during the first ten days of the month. We almost hit 60 degrees on January 9th for the warmest temperature of the month then a few weeks later we dropped to -15 which was the coldest air temperature in seven years since 2019.
When it came to snowfall in January we did pretty good. We didn't have any huge widespread storms but rather a lot of consistent light snow chances. In the end we picked up 14.5" of snow which was just a few tenths behind the average of 14.9" for the month. Last year in 2025 only saw a measly 3.1" of snow. It goes into the records as the 51st most snowy on records.
We didn't have much, if any, rain during the month of January. But total precipitation, which includes any rain plus the liquid equivalent of any snow/sleet/ice, reached 1.42" which was a few tenths behind average.
Now we look ahead to February. The month averages almost a foot of snow which is the second snowiest month on average, after January. We do see some decent warming during the month as well with the average high going from around 30 to near 40 and the average low going from the teens to the mid 20s.
