Join Milwaukee’s record-breaking river cleanup Saturday morning
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Small actions can make a big difference when it comes to taking care of the environment. This Saturday, April 25, to finish up Earth Week, you can be part of something huge.
Volunteers across the Milwaukee area are coming together to help clean up local parks and rivers in an effort to set a world record for the largest single-day cleanup.
Each year, more than 4,000 people take part in the Milwaukee Riverkeeper event, helping to protect the 900-mile Milwaukee River Basin that feeds into Lake Michigan and provides drinking water to more than a million people.
From plastic bottles to unexpected debris, thousands of pounds of trash are collected, with most of it being harmful plastic that takes decades to break down.
This year, organizers are aiming to make it official with a Guinness World Record adjudicator on site.
No registration is required—just show up and pitch in. Supplies are provided, and the event is free and open to everyone.
After the cleanup, the adjudicator will make the record official at Rock the Green, a zero-waste sustainability festival at the Harley-Davidson Museum.
The cleanup takes place from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. For more information, click here.
