Crews work tirelessly in Kenosha County cleaning up the aftermath of storm damage
KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- People in our area are cleaning up from storm damage before the new round of storms passes through.
The heaviest hit area in our hometown is Kenosha County.
As of Friday morning, around 2,100 residents in Kenosha County are without power - the highest number in our area.
CBS 58 crews from Thursday night and early Friday morning have found dozens of fallen trees, damaged homes, downed power lines and other debris all over Kenosha County.
In Kenosha, the damage is most prominent along 22nd Avenue.
The storm left behind a trail of dozens of 60-foot downed trees.
WE Energies crews worked throughout the night restoring power to homes. Many people in the area of 22nd Avenue say their lights are back on, but the damage done to many homes will take longer to recover from.
One homeowner stepped outside to find his garage in his neighbor's yard.
"Disaster," said homeowner Michael Myers. "Things are everywhere, branches are everywhere."
Clean up began before sunrise for some residents and the Forestry Department. Dragging branches, using chainsaws and woodchippers to work fast to clear roads for traffic.
"I'd really like to start picking up the pieces but ugh," said Myers. "We're kind of at a standstill right now."
The hold is because many people are waiting for word from their insurance companies before moving forward. Cleanup, however, is moving fast with roads being cleared of trees and other debris.
