MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- After being stranded at Bradford Beach during freezing temperatures, a kitten is making a full recovery.

In this winter storm, it was more than just the wind making some noise.

“She was a little loudmouth," said Sara Dykstra, a volunteer with the Urban Cat Coalition.

At Bradford Beach, a kitten was living under the rocks and staying warm using dead leaves.

“It was probably a good 12 feet of rocks from the shoreline to the sidewalk. She had pretty much a whole tunnel system under there from what I could see," said Karen Hendrickson, Urban Cat Coalition volunteer.

For more than two weeks, community members left her food, but getting this kitten to come out wasn't an easy task.

“We just started calling to her and heard these little meows. We were all shocked that she was still alive out there," said Dykstra.

Dykstra and Hendrickson put their minds to rescuing the kitten -- just as the temperatures dipped.

“For this tiny little kitten, in the rocks, on a cold beach, with -25 wind chill on the horizon, I couldn’t sleep. I had to go out there and see if I could get her," said Dykstra.

The Urban Cat Coalition volunteers enticed the kitten with the irresistible -- ham and shoelaces.

"I took the string off my boot and started wiggling it down there, and then I also had ham," said Hendrickson.

Now, the kitten is in a warmer place. After she's spayed and vaccinated, she will be available for adoption.

Her name? Ruby.

"A ruby is often found in rocks because it is undeterred by weather," said Dysktra.

This kitten -- a gem, undeterred by the Milwaukee cold.
