Thousands protest at local 'No Kings' rallies against Trump
MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- A number of 'No Kings Day' rallies have kicked off in Southeast Wisconsin, joining a national movement of counter-protests to President Trump and the military parade taking place in Washington D.C. on Sat. Jun. 14
“We need to listen to the people’s voices," said protester, Alison Forbes. "We’re not out here because we don’t have anything better to do. We’re out here because we need to be heard. This is not a president. This is a criminal and he’s trying to act like a king, and he needs to be gone.”
At Milwaukee's Cathedral Square Park, a massive crowd formed Saturday afternoon to join in on the rallies happening across the nation. Organizers say the protests are opposing authoritarianism from President Trump and his administration.
"Democracy is at stake and I just feel a great sense of urgency about that," said protester, Margret Willey. "I will come to as many of these as I can get to, to make my voice heard."
The rally turning into a march throughout downtown Milwaukee, with thousands joining in on the protest. Event organizers are estimating upwards of around 15,000 in attendance.
With high tensions in Los Angeles, where President Trump ordered the National Guard to respond to anti-ICE demonstrations, many protesters were vocal, demanding ICE stay out of their communities.
“I’m fighting out here for people who are undocumented and the things that are going on in LA is a disgrace to this country," said protester, Jasmine Mendoza. "It’s pretty much kidnapping what's going on and I am not standing for it. I am standing here for my people, and everybody who is affected by this administration."
CBS 58 News crews were also on scene of a Waukesha rally taking place along Wisconsin Ave. Saturday afternoon.
There were also reports of rallies taking place in Shorewood, Greenfield, and Brookfield as well.
