Man critically injured after crashing into Racine City Hall
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police say a man is in critical condition after driving into Racine City Hall Saturday, Aug. 5.
Officers were on foot in the area just before 6 p.m. when they saw a Dodge Charger fail to stop at a stop sign near 10th and Villa.
The officers returned to their squads and attempted to stop the vehicle, but police say the car continued to travel at a high rate of speed, going through several more stop signs in the residential area.
Eventually officers lost sight of the vehicle, and moments later, it was reported that a Dodge Charger crashed into City Hall. The driver was trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by the Racine Fire Department.
Officials say the 58-year-old man driving the vehicle was taken to Ascension All Saints before being airlifted to Milwaukee with severe injuries.
Authorities say the damage to City Hall was substantial.
