Vanguard Milwaukee discuses upcoming stage drama about gun violence
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — CBS 58 got a sneak peek Wednesday at Milwaukee Rep's upcoming production of "Footloose."
Based on the 1980s film, the musical follows a teenager who moves to a small town where dancing has been banned.
The production is being directed and choreographed by three-time Olivier Award winner Stephen Mear. The Olivier Awards are among the United Kingdom's most prestigious theater honors.

Mear said he wanted the production's cast to reflect a wider range of people than the original film.
"The cast is very diverse, which is wonderful because in the film, it's very white, and I just wanted to get away from that," Mear said. "I wanted everybody that comes to see this show to look on stage and go, 'You know, that's me,' or 'I know somebody like that.'"
"I just want them to come in and connect with everybody that's in this town," he added.
"Footloose" runs at Milwaukee Rep from Sept. 23 through Nov. 1.
