Man dies after being pulled from water of Fond du Lac Marina

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Fond du Lac man has died at the hospital after he was pulled from the water near the "Big Hole" area of Fond du Lac Marina on Sunday, September 9.

Fond du Lac Police say they got a call for a possible drowning around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday after a man went into the water near the Fond du Lac Yacht Club and went under. Police said witnesses were able to pull the man, later identified as 47-year-old Daniel Thompson, from the water and a bystander began CPR. First responders then continued CPR along with other life-saving measures and Thompson was taken to a nearby hospital.

Police say Thompson had been on shore operating a remote-controlled boat in the marina area when the boat lost power. Thompson had tried to retrieve the boat but due to the winds and current, the boat was swept further out.

Investigators say Thompson had turned around and was swimming back to shore when he went under.
