Man dies following Walworth County explosion; home completely destroyed
WALWORTH COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 68-year-old man has died following a home explosion in Walworth County.
Authorities identified the victim as Leland Holden.
An investigation is underway into what caused the blast.
New drone footage shows the damage to the home in the town of Lafayette after it exploded.
The Walworth County Sheriff's office arrived on the scene shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2.
Drone footage reveals the house, tucked behind a massive tree line, was destroyed.
It took a crew of 60 law enforcement officials about 40 minutes to rescue a man who was stuck in the basement.
Neighbors say the explosion was felt several miles away.
"First thing I did, I come out, I thought it was my house," said Everett Bladow, neighbor. "I come out and there's insulation flying around like it was snow."
Holden was transported to an area hospital by a Flight for Life helicopter where he later died.
The Elkhorn fire chief says the initial investigation suggests this was a propane gas explosion.
