Man who helped hide Emily Rogers' body testifies against Nicholas Matzen in court
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It’s day three of the Nicholas Matzen trial, the Milwaukee man accused of killing his girlfriend, Emily Rogers, back in 2022.
In court Wednesday, the state presented several witnesses, including detectives on the case, and the man who says he helped Matzen hide Rogers’ body.
On the stand, brothers Andre and Felix Torres testified against their friend, Matzen.
“He said he choked her,” Andre Torres testified.
In April 2020, 23-year-old Emily Rogers was reported missing by a friend after not being heard from in several days. Her body was found in a wooded area in St. Francis over one week later.
“I tried to keep what I did to a minimum. Nobody needs to experience or hear what goes through my head. We dumped her in the creek,” said Felix Torres, in court.
Andre Torres testified that in April 2022, he received a phone call from Matzen, asking him to watch Matzen and Rogers’ child.
"Try to find a babysitter because he was telling my mom that Emily left him with the baby. Like, she got up and left," Andre Torres told the courtroom.
Matzen then asked Felix Torres for help grabbing items for the baby from their home. Felix Torres testified that when they arrived at Matzen's home, that's when he saw Rogers' body.
"I got sick to my stomach and then let it go," said Felix Torres, referring to Rogers' body being dumped in the creek.
When Felix Torres and Matzen arrived back to the Torres' home, Matzen told Andre Torres "the job was done."
"My brother was pale in the face and Nick was kinda nonchalant. Nick says, 'We're done. We don't have nothing to worry about,'" recalled Andre Torres.
The state will wrap up its witnesses Thursday morning, and the defense will present its case.
