Marquette will play Vermont in 1st round of NCAA Tournament
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Marquette will face off against Vermont in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as a 2 seed.
This will be their second straight trip to the tournament.
The Golden Eagles defeated Xavier yesterday 65-51 to take home their first ever Big East championship.
Marquette finishes the season with a 28-6 (17-3) record.
Head coach Shaka Smart was named the Big East coach of the year, while Tyler Kolek was named the BIg East player of the year.
Marquette finished the regular season as the sixth ranked team in the AP Top 25 poll.
They lost in the first round of the tournament last year against the North Carolina Tar Heels 95-63. They were the nine seed in the 2022 tournament.
Smart took an impressive VCU team to the Final Four back in 2011 but could never really find any consistency at Texas.
Now, he’s got a talented Golden Eagles team headed to the tournament – a team that was projected to finish ninth in the Big East.
The Golden Eagles will tip off against Vermont on Friday in Colombus, Ohio.
The game will be at 1:45 p.m. on CBS 58.
