Mayor Cavalier Johnson announces re-election bid

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson announced his plans to run for re-election in 2024 in a Wednesday, Sept. 20 press release.

Johnson was elected in April 2022, with his current term ending April 2024.

The city's safety and financial security are two issues mentioned in his re-election announcement, with the mayor stating, "The hopes and dreams of city leaders for the last few decades are now becoming a reality, and Milwaukee can now move forward more firmly in control of our fiscal future."

He added, "We must continue to fight the crisis of gun violence and unsafe streets. We must restore and invest in our neighborhoods, our housing, and our infrastructure. We must create more family supporting jobs, more union and trades jobs, and we must grow our city."

The mayoral election will be on the spring ballet on Tuesday, Feb. 20, and then as part of the spring general election on Tuesday, April 2.
