MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a triple shooting near 20th and Center, that left one man dead and two others hospitalized early Tuesday, June 2.

Friends of the victim say he worked at a gas station where the shooting occurred, and his death is a senseless tragedy.

"Just trying to do his job. You know the man got kids. You know that's crazy. He can't go home to his boys. You know he can't go home to the mother of his kids," said Antonio Edwards.

Edwards said his friend, JD, who was shot and killed, was a security guard at the Sr Petro gas station and was known around the neighborhood.

"He's just a cool person. His job was basically keep the traffic the customers in and get them in and out, in and out. Keep guys from hanging around the gas station,” Edwards said.

Milwaukee fire officials say two others were also shot and they were taken to a local hospital.

Deshawn Grant has lived nearby for a decade, and said the violence needs to stop.

"Terrible, Terrible. Things are getting out of hand. It’s unreal,” Grant said.

Edwards agreed, saying especially during this time of protests that started last week just blocks from the shooting.

"It’s tragic with everything that’s going on right now that this can happen in the midst of everything that’s going on. I say it’s senseless. Senseless violence,” Edwards said.

The shooting remains under investigation.
