MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MCSCO) is investigating a fatal crash that happened on I-794 eastbound Saturday, Oct. 30.
Milwaukee police notified the MCSO about the crash at 3:22 a.m. that reportedly occurred at the bottom of the off-ramp to Jackson and Van Buren.
Authorities say a mid-sized SUV appears to have continued straight through the left hand curve of the ramp, jumped the curb, struck a sign and the left bridge pillar of the south to the west ramp of the Lake Interchange.
Officials add that the crash started a fire at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office reports that the driver of the vehicle did not survive the crash.
MSCO reopened the off-ramp around 9:00 a.m. Saturday after a multiple-hour closure.
TRAFFIC UPDATE: The I-794 eastbound (Jackson/Van Buren) off ramp has reopened, after a 4.5 hour closure, following a fatal, single vehicle crash and fire.
