MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A sentencing took place at the Milwaukee County Courthouse Wednesday, July 9, for a case dating back two years. The incident occurred near Highland and Water Street on Aug. 19, 2023.
In what police determined was an armed robbery turned deadly, then-16-year-old Nasir Johnson shot and killed 21-year-old Victor Basmirez.
Johnson was sentenced to 22 years in prison, followed by 18 years of extended supervision after pleading guilty to first-degree reckless homicide. A second charge of attempted armed robbery was dismissed.
"Words cannot make up for what I've done," Johnson said in the courtroom. " Every night goes by, every sun comes up, and there isn't a moment in time where I wish I could take back what I've done. I do have regrets for what I've done. I do have a heart. I was just not thinking clearly at that time."
