MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Mega Media Xchange will close after 25 years of business on Milwaukee's East Side after the city approved a zoning change to turn the space into a luxury hotel.
The electronic media store is the only occupant of Farwell Point at the corner of Farwell Avenue and Brady Street.
Farwell Point was bought by developers who plan to tear the building down and replace it with an 11-story hotel, complete with 130 rooms, a restaurant, a rooftop bar and parking.
"Absolutely heartbreaking for like everyone that works there and our customer base, which is Milwaukee," Mega Media Xchange Manager Matt Newton said.
Mega Media Xchange is a staple for Milwaukee gamers.
"Our main thing is video games, but we sell DVD's Blu Rays, video games, game systems, consoles, Funko Pops, Legos, toys," Newton said.
It's not goodbye forever. Newton said the Milwaukee and Franklin stores will join their Brookfield location.
"We decided to consolidate all of the Mega Medias into one, bringing our best staff and product all into one," Newton said.
Although, the transition will be bittersweet, Newton wants to assure his loyal customers that changing zip codes won't change their character.
"They'd like to come to these other stores, but they don't know if the vibe is going to be the same. It is going to be the same now," Newton said.
Mega Media Xchange is having sales on some of its merchandise.
The Farwell store will close in July.
