WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- There is a new development in the Slender Man stabbing case. Morgan Geyser, 22, has remained in a mental facility since 2017, after stabbing a classmate more than a dozen times when she was 12 years old.
Geyser appeared in Waukesha County court on Monday, April 28, hoping for an approved plan for conditional release from a mental health facility, but that didn't happen.
This is the second time the state has attempted to stop Geyser's conditional release, which was granted in January.
In court Monday, a judge ordered her conditional release plan needs to be amended meaning she will remain in the Winnebago Mental Health Institute for at least another six weeks.
The state asked for the plan to be re-done, saying the location of the supervised group home for Geyser is just eight miles away from where the victim of the case, Peyton Leutner, now lives.
Assistant DA Ted Szczupakiewicz claimed the Waukesha County DHS who made the plan didn't take the victim's safety into account. The plan was sent to the court on April 14, but the state and Geyser's attorney said they only discussed it ten minutes before today's hearing, and hadn't made the court aware of the issue.
Beforehand, Leutner's mother appeared virtually to express her concern, saying it's a stark contrast from when Geyser's co-defendant, Anisa Weier, was released in 2021.
"They made no effort to ascertain details of Peyton's daily life that would be pertinent to this planning," said the victim's mother, Stacie. "While we understand the complexity of this case and the need to consider Ms. Geyser's safety given the public and media attention, we must ask, what consideration has been given to Peyton's rights, and her need for safety?"
Waukesha Circuit Court Judge Michael Bohren was noticeably frustrated with the lack of communication between the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) conditional release team, both parties, and the court before the hearing.
