Mother of 14-year-old killed on Milwaukee's north side cries out for solutions to gun violence in her neighborhood
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The mother of the 14-year-old who was killed in a shooting on Milwaukee's north side says she wants her community to solve a consistent issue of gun violence in her neighborhood.
On Saturday night, Kamid Everett says her son, Bryant Triplett, was shot near 21st and Concordia. He later died at a hospital, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office.
“Bryant loved video games, he loved to cook, and he loved to make people happy. That's the kid Bryant was, he was a people pleaser," Everett said. "Everybody that came into contact with my son loved my son. There was not one person that didn’t love my son.”
“Out of everybody, me and Bryant, we had the tightest bond," said Keniya Everett, Triplett's sister. "“He's the best big brother I’ve ever had in my life.”
An 18-year-old was taken into custody after the shooting. The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation, and charges are pending review. However, the victim's mother says she's certain one thing is true: he should not have been near a gun.
“He got killed because there was a gun that shouldn’t have been around," Everett said. “We got to come together and we got to figure out something because our kids are getting these guns and they’re killing each other and it’s not fair.”
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Milwaukee police at (414) 935-7360 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or P3 Tips.
