MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Family, friends and members of the Marquette community gathered to lay university president Michael Lovell to rest.
The university's leader died earlier this month after a battle with sarcoma, a rare cancer.
Dozens filled the Church of the Gesu, on 12th and Wisconsin for a mass of Christian burial.
A family friend who came to pay her respects told CBS 58 that despite his passing, his legacy isn't over.
“His ability to trust God with the details and just do the work that’s set in front of him I think has been an example and I think that will live on," said Brooke Talbot, family friend.
President Lovell is survived by his wife, Amy, and their four children.
He was 57 years old.
