MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- With the election less than 25 days away, organizations are making sure people are registered to vote. In Milwaukee, a national voter registration bus hit the streets.

It's called "The Blackest Bus in America," and it's part of a nationwide campaign to encourage Black and brown voters to get registered.

“Elections are being won on the margins. Even with three votes, one vote, or 11,000 votes, all votes matter," said Alethea Bonello, with Black Voters Matter. “We focus on Black voters because sometimes they are put to the side and marginalized.”

With food, music, and games, organizations say they want to encourage college students to get involved.

“We want to create a vibe that it's not just about receiving information, but we want people to bring their joy, bring their questions, and we’re surrounding them in a safe space to be able to engage in voting," Bonello said.

Rev. Gregory Lewis, with Souls to the Polls, says by getting people registered, it's likelier they'll participate in early voting.

“They shouldn’t wait until the last day, Nov. 5, to vote," said Lewis. “I think it's a huge mistake not to understand that every vote counts.”

Voter Columbus Martin has one word to describe the process. “Easy. Very easy," said Martin.

Organizers say as the election gets closer, the more important it is to get registered.

“They are in town because they believe in us. They think Milwaukee is important and that we need to get the folks out to vote," said Bonello.

"The Blackest Bus in America" will be making three stops in Milwaukee on Oct. 12.
