MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- City leaders joined developers downtown to introduce "Trade Hotel Milwaukee," described as the city's newest landmark hotel.

It was called a "topping off ceremony" as a crane lifted the last steel beam into position atop the nine-story building at the corner of Juneau and Vel R. Phillips.

North Central Group, in a partnership with the Milwaukee Bucks, says this will be the "official hotel of the Deer District."

"This is part of redefining downtown in such a great way," Bucks President Peter Feigin said.

The hotel will feature more than 200 luxury rooms, a two-story VIP suite, rooftop dining, meeting and ballroom space and great views of the city. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson says spaces like this will help attract events to the city.

"We're seeing increased interest in Milwaukee as a great place to host a convention," Mayor Johnson said.

Developers say Trade Hotel MKE celebrates Milwaukee's roots in industry and skilled labor. Andy Inman, VP of development for North Central Group, says design elements throughout the building are meant to remind guests of Milwaukee architecture and landmarks.

"Cream city brick, the metals, the masonry, the timber elements will all become part of The Trade," Inman said.

The Bucks say one floor of the hotel will have higher ceilings, taller doors, and bathroom sinks that are higher off the floor. It is designed with visiting NBA players, who are often much taller than the general population.

Trade Hotel MKE is scheduled to open spring of 2023.
