Multiple crashes reported on I-41 Saturday morning
FON DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded to six vehicle crashes in a seven-hour span on Interstate 41 Saturday, June 26.
According to authorities, the first crash occurred at 6:58 a.m. between USH 151 and Hickory Street. The crash occurred when a southbound semi-tractor trailer travelling in the right lane lost control, entered the left lane striking another southbound vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of this crash.
The Sheriff's office said the second crash happened at 7:01 a.m. between Hickory Street and Military Road. This crash occurred when a northbound vehicle swerved to avoid striking a vehicle which swerved or cut into the lane of travel. The vehicle which needed to take the evasive action then lost control and crashed through the highway fence for northbound traffic coming to rest on Mercury Marine property. The initial vehicle which may have caused this crash was not located. There were no injuries as a result of this crash.
A third crash occurred at 8:14 a.m. as a secondary crash between USH 151 and Hickory. Officials say the crash occurred when a northbound vehicle failed to move over for the lane closure and struck a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office squad car from behind. There were no injuries as a result of this crash.
Authorities say the fourth crash occurred at 9:21 a.m. just north of CTH F. The vehicle in this crash had been reported as northbound vehicle driving erratically before crashing. The driver reportedly suffers from a medical condition which may have led to the driving behavior. The operator of the vehicle was also reported as a Missing Person from Langlade County, Wisconsin for behavior related to this medical condition and has been safely reunited with family members. There were no injuries as a result of this crash.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fifth crash that happened at 10:33 a.m. between Military Road and Johnson Street. This crash occurred when the operator of a northbound vehicle swerved to avoid debris, lost control, and struck the concrete median barrier. The vehicle's occupants were treated on scene by Fond du Lac Fire Paramedics and released. No one was transported for any injuries.
Finally, officials say their was a sixth crash that occurred at 12:36 p.m. just north of CTH F. This crash occurred when a northbound vehicle swerved to avoid striking a vehicle attempting to re-enter traffic from the northbound shoulder. The vehicle which needed to take the evasive action then lost control and crashed into the northbound ditch. The vehicle which caused this crash was located and the driver was cited by authorities for failing to yield to traffic. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
