Officials: Driver nearly 3 times legal drinking limit accused in deadly crash near 60th and Hampton
CBS 58/Milwaukee County Sheriff\'s Office MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 27-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a deadly crash that happened near 60th and Hampton April 19.
Ayanna Swiams is facing the following charges:
- Second degree reckless homicide
- Homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle
- Homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Police say a northbound driver on 60th struck another car, killing 31-year-old Deandre Gladney. The driver of the striking vehicle, identified as Swiams, was arrested.
According to a criminal complaint, Swiams' blood alcohol content following the crash was .215 -- nearly three times the legal limit. At the hospital following the crash, Swiams reportedly screamed at hospital staff, spat in a nurse's face and attempted to remove her handcuffs several times.
Data downloaded from Swiams' vehicle showed it was traveling 75 mph less than five seconds before the crash. The speed limit on 60th and Hampton is 30 mph.
Swiams' is being held on $100,000 bond.
