'One way or the other:' Which LaFleur will go to the Super Bowl?

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers will be back in San Francisco on Sunday, Jan. 19, but there's more to the matchup than meets the eye. Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur has a few unique connections to the 49ers.

There are just a few degrees of separation in the NFL. Matt LaFleur felt that Week 12 the first time he brought the Packers to play the 49ers in the regular season. The 49ers are coached by one of LaFleur's best friends, Kyle Shanahan.

However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

LaFleur's brother, Mike LaFleur, is a pass game coordinator for the 49ers. He said this matchup feels totally different from the regular season.

The two haven’t talked all week and that probably won’t change until the clock hits zeros on Sunday.

"Anybody that knows me knows how much my family means to me. My brother, and my parents, and my wife and kids, so it is an emotional deal. This is not about us, this is about the Green Bay Packers versus the San Francisco 49ers. Two great football teams in with the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl," Coach LaFleur said.

LaFleur’s parents will once again be making the trip to the NFC Championship from Michigan. He joked regardless of the outcome, a trip to Miami is in the books.

“I know they’re going to the Super Bowl one way or another. I think it’s mixed emotions -- it is what it is. It certainly was last time too," said LaFleur.
