Onlookers enjoy Air and Water Show practice ahead of big weekend performance
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One of Milwaukee's summertime events is taking flight. The Waterstone Bank Air and Water Show is set to take flight this weekend, but some onlookers enjoyed a preview of the show on practice day.
You'll hear them before you see them.
"We’re always like watching them and looking to see where they’re going and what they’re doing," said Lisa Griger, an attendee.
Fighter jets are taking over Milwaukee's skies.
“To me, it’s just the exhilaration and just excitement of the maneuvers they’re doing," said Daniel Heling, an attendee.
It's a childhood dream for Heling come to life.
"Yep, ever since I was a little kid," said Heling. “I’ve had a love of aviation my whole life. I’m a pilot for a living. So, just come to see the military planes.”
For the first time in five years, the Thunderbirds are set to return. It's also the first time in six years the U.S Army Golden Knights Parachute Team will be joining the show. At McKinley Beach, people opted to watch the practice and to avoid the weekend crowd.
“Yeah, I think the word’s getting out that if you wanna have some space, come on Friday to watch the practice," said Griger.
For Heling, the sounds across the skies represent patriotism.
“Absolutely. I mean just knowing what they had to go through to get to those jobs," said Heling.
It's also a symbol of what Milwaukee has to offer.
“Other people have to travel great distances to see air shows like this so to be right in our backyard is very cool," said Heling.
The show will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat. July 27, and Sun. July 28.
