Packers insider thinks Rodgers will make decision soon

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It's the NFL offseason, but the Aaron Rodgers rumor mill never stops.

One reporter says the Packers are going all in to re-sign him, another thinks that he is headed to Denver in a trade.

To try to make sense of it all, CBS 58’s Bill Walsh talked with Pete Dougherty, Packers beat writer for the Journal-Sentinel.

"How easy or realistic is it for him to force his way out if he wants out?" asked CBS 58's Bill Walsh. "I mean is it that simple, if he wants out they'll find a way to let him go?"

"Oh, I would think so," said Pete Dougherty. "You know, last year was different, this year he's only got the one season left. I mean if they forced him to play like they did last year, he would play the season, then he'd be a free agent next year, so he'd leave them and they get nothing in return. I would think if he wants out, they would accommodate them and try to get as much of a draft haul as they can get."

"If Rodgers stays, and I realize they can extend him and alleviate the cap hit, but even if he stays, there are going to be some good players who have to go to accommodate that -- is that fair to say?" asked Walsh.

"I'm proceeding on the assumption if they keep Rodgers, they have to keep Adams, that's part of the deal. And that they would want that, that they need those two guys together with Campbell, MVS, and Douglas, and I think it would be really tough to keep just one of those guys, you know, and I don't even know for sure if you could keep one of them," said Dougherty.

"What should Packers fans make of the Rodgers trade steam they see on Twitter?" asked Walsh.

"I'd say be ready for anything," Dougherty said. "If you follow the Packers, and I just, I do, I think it's going to be sooner rather than later. I'm thinking something, something breaks on this in the next couple weeks -- cuz either way, the Packers need time to do all this maneuvering, and this is the big domino that determines everything else that follows, and Rogers knows it. So I think something's probably going to happen on this in the next couple weeks, would be my best bet."
