Port Washington Fire Department officially relocates to new building
PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- After nearly 60 years, the Port Washington Fire Department is in a brand-new home.
The department made its formal move to its new $32.5 million building on W. Grand Avenue Tuesday, Aug. 18. And they did so with a parade.
The old firehouse on W. Washington Street was built in the 1960s and was too small for its staff and equipment. Another thing they're happy about? They're right next to the police station.
"It's been kind of fun as we moved in," said Chief Joe Deboer. "We can rib each other back and forth. We're right across, kinda down the hallway from each other. And the other nice thing is we're sharing a lot of space here. We're trying to utilize things we don't use every day that we both have in one spot now."
The fire department is having a formal open house with the police department on Oct. 11.
Anyone is free to stop by and get a firsthand look at the new firehouse.
