Dr. Kimo Ah Yun elected president of Marquette University
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) - April Harris is the CEO/Founder of the Black Arts Council of Racine (BACR). She joined us in studio to discuss their efforts and upcoming events in the community.
Harris does it all. She is a CEO, Artist, Producer, Therapeutic Art Coach, CommunityAdvocate, Entrepreneur, and RUSD Board Member 6th District/Clerk.
BACR was created in 2018. They promote highlight and inspire local black artists in all genres.
Events have included a poetry slam, production of plays, children's art contests, Halloween drawing contests, YouTube video contests and more.
BACR also consistently collaborates with other resources such as, Community Centers: (Martin L. King Center, Bray Center, George Bryant Center, Racine Art Museum/RAM, Wisconsin Arts Board, Sixth Street Theater, Roberta's Restaurant, Racine Literacy Council, Racine Public Library, Chit Chatt Restaurant, Uncorkt, Maple Table, Taste of Soul, Market on Main, RUSD, North Pointe Church
Their next event is the Halloween Masquerade Ball Fundraiser. It's happening on Saturday, October 26th, from 7pm-11pm at the Dekoven Center in Racine. Tickets are $50 per person.
The Stageplay Steal Away is coming up on November 15, 16 and 23rd at 7:30 pm.
It's happening at the Gilmore Fine Arts School and is open and free to the public.
