UPDATED: Racine, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The DOJ has confirmed that the officer-involved shooting in Racine is now fatal.

The DOJ says the man shot by police died from his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The DOJ released a statement which read in part, "The Wisconsin DOJ-led investigation of this incident has been a collaboration between DCI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pleasant Prairie Police Department, and Mt. Pleasant Police Department. The Racine Police Department has been fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation. DCI is continuing to collect evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Racine County District Attorney when the investigation concludes."

There are no other details being released at this time.

UPDATED: RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An officer-involved shooting is currently under investigation in Racine.

Officers attempted a traffic stop in the area of 14th and Villa shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The operator of the vehicle fled on foot into the 1400 block of Park Avenue with officers in pursuit.

Police say the fleeing suspect displayed a gun and officers fired at the suspect.

No officers were injured in the incident.

There is currently no update on the condition of the suspect. 

The DOJ is now the lead investigating agency.

Racine Police investigators are interested in any additional information that anyone may have about this crime. Any witnesses, or citizens with information, are urged to call the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at (262) 635-7756.

Racine Police confirmed in a tweet that no officers were injured in the incident. Police are asking the public to avoid the area since multiple streets are closed.
