Set-up underway at Veterans Park for Harley-Davidson Homecoming celebration
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Expect to see a lot of motorcycles taking to Milwaukee's streets later this week. Harley-Davidson is deep in preparations for their 120th anniversary celebration, which includes a huge music festival at Veterans Park.
A lot of construction is underway on the lakefront ahead of Harley Homecoming, with crews setting up a large stage and several tents.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend Friday and Saturday, with Green Day and Foo Fighters taking the stage.
"I rode my bike down here just to kind of see the festival grounds," said Christina White, one of many onlookers stopping by Monday to see the set-up operation. "I heard it brings thousands of people to the city, and I just moved here, so I'm excited. I'm all for it."
The celebration kicks off Thursday with events at the Harley-Davidson Museum. Live music is Friday and Saturday at Veterans Park.
"It's very busy. Very busy, and traffic around here will be wild," said nearby neighbor, Kathy Daly.
Daly and her husband, Jim, went to Harley's 100th anniversary celebration 20 years ago.
With a recent move to the lakefront, this year's festival is basically in their back yard.
"We are going to be well in sound range for the whole weekend," said Jim Daly.
Their tip for festival goers - be ready for traffic.
"Take The Hop, or park somewhere far away and walk," Kathy Daly said.
Motorcycles can park for free at Veterans Park and the museum.
Events will be going on all throughout the city to celebrate.
"Harley is an iconic Milwaukee thing, and it's great they're still around after 120 years, and this is going to be fun," Jim Daly said.
Tickets for the music festival at Veterans Park are still available online.
