'She didn't deserve this': Family of Milwaukee transgender woman killed speaks out
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The family of a Milwaukee transgender woman killed in February is speaking out for the first time.
Today, June 14, would have been Cashay Henderson's 32nd birthday.
"My family and I just want justice for what happened to her," Ada Henderson, Cashay Henderson's sister, said.
Ada Henderson joined activists with 'COMMUNITYX' and 'Diverse and Resilient' to demand Wisconsin's justice system take her sister's case seriously.
"Cashay was a great person. She was very kind, very loving and she didn't deserve this," Ada Henderson said.
Cashay Henderson was shot and killed in February. Her body was found in an apartment fire near 29th and Villard, according to court documents.
"All across this country, we are seeing an attack on trans lives, and to be quite honest, we're sick of it," COMMUNITYX CEO Chloe Cheyenne said.
Henderson's family, 'COMMUNITYX' and 'Diverse and Resilient' is demanding new legislation to protect transgender people from violence and harassment.
"Milwaukee, we will not let you turn your back on Cashay. All eyes are on you and will remain on you until we see justice for her," Cheyenne said.
Cordell Howze, 33, is facing charges in connection to Henderson's death.
Howze will appear in court on Thursday.
