Sheboygan police officer treated for injuries after fleeing vehicle strikes squad, causing rollover
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Sheboygan police officer was treated for injuries Sunday, after their squad was struck by a speeding vehicle.
Police say the officer was attempting to stop the vehicle on the northeast side of Sheboygan around 8:13 p.m., when the officer activated emergency lights and sirens, and the suspect vehicle fled.
Officials say as the officer was trying to locate the suspect, the suspect vehicle disregarded a two-way stop sign and struck the officer's squad, causing it to roll over.
Michael Xiong lives near the scene of the crash. His home surveillance camera captured the crash on video.
“Never would I ever think I would have caught something like that,” Xiong said. “You can hear how loud and fast the car was going.”
The suspect, a 25-year-old Sheboygan man, remained on scene and was arrested. He declined treatment for minor injuries, as did two other occupants of the suspect vehicle.
Police say the officer was treated for minor injuries and released from an area hospital.
Police say the suspect could have numerous charges including fleeing and eluding an officer, operating with a restricted controlled substance, and failing to stop for a stop sign.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sheboygan police at 920-459-3333.
