CHICAGO, Ill. (CBS 58) -- A hometown motorsport hero hits the streets of Chicago this weekend for a historic race.
Chicago's Grant Park neighborhood will host the NASCAR cup series' first street race in the organization's 75-year history.
The course features 12 turns along a 2.2-mile track in the heart of Chicago's downtown.
Wisconsin native Josh Bilicki will drive the #78 Chevy Camaro.
Bilicki graduated from Slinger High School and began racing as a 4-year-old around go-kart courses in our area.
Now, he's ready to take on the Windy City, which is a homecoming of sorts for him.
"This is technically my home race now in the NASCAR cup series. I'm in Richfield, Wisconsin, which is only about an hour-and-a-half from downtown Chicago," Bilicki said. "So, it's a big race to me, it's a big race for Zeigler Auto Group."
With just days to go, the course is not yet completed, but officials vow it will be ready.
