SE Wisconsin communities report smell of natural gas, officials say odor believed to be weather-related
SOUTHEASTERN WISCONSIN, (CBS 58) -- Many community members in Southeast Wisconsin are reporting an odor of propane or natural gas throughout their city and counties during the morning of Sunday, Jan. 25.
The Waukesha Fire Department confirms to CBS 58 they were investigating a couple reports in Waukesha County and were unable to determine a cause of the smell.
But in a Facebook post, the West Bend Fire Department in Washington County says the odor is believed to be weather-related, and there is no need to call it in.
WE Energies says they are aware of the situation, but it does not appear to be stemming from them:
"We are aware of an unusual odor some people are reporting in the Waukesha County and Washington County areas. It does not appear to be related to any of our natural gas equipment."
They add that if customers do smell natural gas in their homes, they encourage them to leave the area and contact WE Energies or 911 right away.
