MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The official numbers are in and attendance was down at Summerfest 2018 compared to the past few years. 766,192 people attended this year's festival compared to 831,769 in 2017 and 804,116 in 2016. Summerfest officials said three days of excessive heat and two days of rain impacted the numbers.
During the 11 day festival over 2,144 seasonal workers were hired in addition to 380 volunteers.
106,294 fest-goers took advantage of daily admission promotion offers which was nearly 14% of all attendees entered through an admission promotion.
Up next for Summerfest is Labor Day weekend festivities with a Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum concert on Saturday, September 1 and the third annual Big Gig BBQ on Sunday, September 2.
First time Summerfest musicians included: The Weeknd, Janelle Monae, Kesha, Shawn Mendes, Arcade Fire, Marshmello, J. Cole, and more.
This year there were 98,000 one-way rides on the Sky-glider and 2,881 rides on the paddleboats. 17,151 rides were given on the Summerfest Wheel in the Sky and there were 15,999 attempts at the Hole-In-One Contest with no winner.
