Surf's Up Today

The wind has been a noticeable weather feature the last few days. Today is looking to be the peak of our windy conditions. If you're a die hard surfer, then the forecast is perfect for you! But, in efforts of keeping viewers safe, I can't recommend being out on the water today. Wind gusts have been close to 40mph in Milwaukee and the waves are really kicking up.

Check out this lovely photo today from the top of the Wind Point Lighthouse in the Village of White Point:

Looks like a pretty decent chop out there! Waves are expected to build five to seven feet by this afternoon. As you can imagine, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect and it lasts through Friday night.

This impacts all locations from Sheboygan county southward through Kenosha county. In fact, if your plans happen to take you over the border and into the "windy" city, know there is also a Lakeshore Flood Advisory today. The strong northeast wind may cause water to spill over to bike paths, possibly streets adjacent to Lake Michigan in that area.

The set up today has a tight pressure gradient between an area of high pressure just to our north and the pesky low pressure that's been hanging around just southeast of the state the last few days.

This is causing the strong wind flow across our area. The strongest wind will be with us through this afternoon, and then should slacken just a bit tonight. It will still be breezy at times overnight and through Friday before we start to feel more tranquil conditions into the weekend. But at least we have more sun to enjoy today. Get out and enjoy it if you can, because that low is expected to inch closer to us tomorrow and bring showers back to the forecast.
