Teen charged in homicide of 15-year-old girl bound over for trial

Milwaukee County Circuit Court

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 17-year-old boy appeared in court Wednesday in connection to the murder of a 15-year-old girl in Milwaukee.

Javier Smith is charged with first degree reckless homicide after allegedly shooting and killing Azoria Jones in September near 76th and Silver Spring.

Investigators say footage from a Milwaukee bus shows the pair walking before Jones falls and Smith leans over her before running away.

According to the criminal complaint, multiple witnesses reported seeing Smith lean over Jones after the shooting yelling out words to the effect of, "Stop playing, girl," and "Are you okay? Wake up."

While being interviewed, the complaint says Smith admitted he was the one who shot Jones, saying he had put his gun under his arm and it "went off."

In court Wednesday, a motion to dismiss was denied.

The court found probable cause and bound Smith over for trial.

He pleaded not guilty. A bail/bond hearing is set for Oct. 23.
